Contribuiți la feedbackWe were here with a group of 22 people in a seperate room. The building is superb but sadly enough was the food disappointing. Aswell the fish as the meat was of moderate quality and the sidedishes were disappointing.
I have been to this place about half a dozen a dozen times. Mostly for a quick drink, either on the street (square) pavement terrace or inside, a few times inside. When it is autum, winter or early spring and still dark the inside is simply stunning, as it is candlelit throughout from the ceiling to the walls and tables. Had a fee late lunches as well and once a quick dinner. It is true, this is not a cheap place, but hey, look at what you get! And the fabulous history and location. This is absolutely an AAA location and is just oozes quality all over, without being posh. O.K. to the service: swift, correct and friendly. The quality of the drinks and food they serve. It is topnotch, regional, organic and of the best quality possible. I really don't get the negative reviews. This is not a pub where you can have a pub meal, it's not a fastfood chain and most of all this is not one of those places where your throat works overtime to make yourself heard, as there is no loud obnoxious music as you will find in most Amsterdam places, here you can sit, relax and enjoy yourself, your company, your drinks and food. And everything around you is beautiful and you have a nice view outside as well. I have ordered coffee, cake, good quality. If you order beers you get beers that win best prizes all over the world, try Jopen (Johannieter). I have ordered their bitterballen en De Waag plateau which are served if you order an alcoholic drink after 16.00. DELICIOUS! I have once eaten there at dinnertime. For a quick dinner, after a day out in the town and on our way back to the train station. We arrived at 17.15. Fully booked, but we told them we would catch a train between 18.30 19.00, so only wanted to have a quick dinner. They told us as most guests would arrive around 19.00 anyway we could have a dinner then and were kindly shown our table at the restaurant section. Dinner was very nice, so was the wine. To me it is a treat coming at the Waag, even just looking at the building is great, but inside it is an excperience. I think the waiters and waitresses are there to give you a good time and they don't force themselves upon you by asking if you want another drink, they give you the time and space if you let them know you want something, and signal them they will deliver just what you wish. That's a very polite way of waiting tables. To me this is one of the great places of Amsterdam for lunch, drinks or dinner. It's not cheap, but most certainly not overpriced considering the quality, location and ambience. Just enjoy it! There is only one downside: people working at De Waag or visiting it are smoking non stop in front of the building, which is an ugly sight. They should allocate a site removed from the entrance, let's say at the stoned walls at the side. We were sitting at the front window and constantly saw people smoking straight before our eyes, staff and visitors.
Classic place. Doesn’t look like restaurant from distance. Amazing interior. Wide variety in delicious food. Very friendly staff. Loved the ambiance.
Lovely place in the middle of everything,Perfect for a romantic meal.surprisingly fast service considering that they were very busy.Food came out presented beautifully and still hot,A bit pricey but definitely worth it.I’d love to come back one day
We stayed in Amsterdam and visited Waag on the evening of our 30th Anniversary. Whitley and the team treated us fantastically. We had the most wonderful meal (Cote De Boeuf) and it was excellent. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. Thank you Whitley!
