Although there is sort of a seating area by the sushi kitchen area, they request that you order directly from the waiters that come to the pool seating area. The sushi options are a bit strange coming from an American Point of View as basically every single roll featured Cream Cheese. I was not the biggest fan of this as I don't think Cream Cheese really belongs in Sushi Rolls, and I know that opinion will get me some hate from the Philadelphian Yelpers. This is a nice option to switch it up from the more traditional Mexican and American Fare offered at the other restaurants on the resort, if you are tired of repeating meals. That being said, I think of all the restaurants at Solmar, this is my least favorite. Since we were all-inclusive patrons, we ordered a whole bunch of rolls and sashimi. It took a really long time for us to get our food despite it being pretty empty when we ordered. The main ones I ate were the Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Solmar Especial Roll. The shrimp tempura was okay, it was pretty empty consisting of just the fried shrimp and sauce basically. The Solmar Especial was a little more interesting, but I felt the flavors didn't work super well together for my American palate.
Meh. Sushi wasn't anything special kinda bland actually. Prices high for what you get, but it's resort pricing. Staff is not super attentive. The desserts were kinda meh, too. Would give 2.5 stars but rounded up to 3.
I went to this place twice and had two different experiences hence my 2 star rating. My first experience here was on my first night here with my family and I was disappointed. I'm Mexican and I know for a fact when food is serve it should be served for everyone at the SAME TIME. Twice it has happened to us at the Grand Solmar where we didn't get our food at the same time. This time at the Sushi Lounge my mom got her food and the rest of us, 3 more people, waited almost 15-20 minuets for our food to come. My mom was done eating and even waited a few minutes before the rest of us got our food. Whenever we asked the waiter questions he seemed to laugh at us as if we were stupid. The food was between good and okay, nothing special. I'm not sure what is about the waiters at the Grand Solmar but you have to flag them down. They are not attentive at all. I had to flag them down for drink refills, when we were ready to order, if our food was ready and even for the check. My second experience here was better but I did not eat here, I ordered the food (Sushi) from a different restaurant called La Roca which I highly recommend, their service was on point and all of us received our food at the same time. I've eaten at 3 different places here and so far I'm disappointed and recommend anyone to eat someone else.
This is a small pool-side sushi preparation station at Solmar Resort. The menu has 30+ items. Something I'd never seen before, fruit sushi. It was surprisingly good! They work with the full service restaurant on the other side of the pool to provide drinks to patrons. Beautifully prepared sushi was delish! Top...the all-inclusive resort package includes as many visits as you like!
