Golden Gate Restaurant - Amherstburg

Richard really listens to his customers and appreciates all input. The lo mein they opened with has been replaced by the same perfect lo mein the first Golden Gate had - here they call it "Beansprout Fried Noodle" - you'll see it as a regular in the buffet Friday through Sundays from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m., or it's order #13 on the menu. The most outstanding dish is the Crispy Beef, #49 on the menu and never seen on the buffet as it's gorgeous fresh but doesn't hold well on the steam table. It's tender beef sauced in a sweet yet savory concoction with a slight hint of spice, with sesame seeds sprinkled on top. That with the beansprout fried noodle has me whimpering with happiness. Chef Park is from Toronto, busily training the chefs in his Hong Kong approach, which works very well for our Canadian palates. My only wish? If Chef Park could cook #76, Fried Shrimp with Spicy Salt (which isn't spicy, really) the way the original Golden Gate chef did it - in a delicate tempura batter rather than the firmer coating he's chosen. I urge you to enjoy the buffet now and then as they try to have something different about once a month, but definitely treat yourself from the menu too. Portions are huge; of course you can phone in a take out order, too - or pay an extra $6 in town and it'll be delivered piping hot to your door. 10% off pickup orders over $30 and for seniors. They're located in the plaza between Subway and Golden Crust Pizza are located. By the way, that dinner buffet is a bargain at $14.95!

Golden Gate has reopened under new management and we love it. We no longer have to drive to Windsor for Chinese food. Excellent quality, fresh and delicious, very clean with good service. Buffet on the weekends is fantastic, and take-out is always hot and fresh. We've waited 20 years for a quality Chinese restaurant in Amherstburg...............thanks for reopening.

We have had dinner from here several times and the food is always great! The wait staff is friendly. Food at the buffet is keep fresh and hot.

Our family has now eaten at this restaurant 2 times, the first time the food tasted ok, it seemed that it was out for a while and was dry. We all ate then left and on our way home everyone got sick throughout the night. We had waited a good year before going back and again the second time the food had seemed to be out for a while and dry and again food was ok, nothing special, but this time only 3 of 5 people got sick that night. Will not go back there again.

Food was very good, fresh and warm. Waitresses are very nice. Location is easy to find and close to shopping centre.
