This is the one of the only few restaurants that I think is reasonable in price and has high quality. This little red house is hard to find but it's worth. I particularly love the mussel. It's fresh and very yummy. I still remember the taste after many years of my visit. It's really tasty!
My second visit in this restaurant proved as enjoyable as the previous one. Fredi Koller chef and tenant is genuinely welcoming, taking time for a little chat with each guest. And Lilly still provides the same friendly and efficient service. Much appreciated. The menu is kept very short, putting focus on fresh and seasonal produce. I chose the suggestions of the day, beginning with the “Vorspeisen Teller” i.e. sample of various starters (mixed salad, smoked salmon, raw tuna fish, wasabi panna cotta, beef tatar). Delicate and tasty. As main course I got tempted by the veal steak in mushroom sauce, served with vegetables and gratin dauphinois. Much generous portion, the meat was flavourful and very tender. Obviously, the bill reflects Switzerland’s high price structure. But you get rewarded by excellent food and service.
After many stays in Switzerland I came to trust the Swiss ‘’Gilde Gourmet’’ guide when looking for traditional restaurants with nice food and pleasant atmosphere. Grüntal is undoubtedly one of them despite its not so glamourous location between the train station and an industrial area. The dining room is on the smaller size but boasts an intimate and relaxed feeling. Thumbs up to Liliane for her efficient and professional service. During the dinner the chef also came out to greet the guests much appreciated. The menu is short with focus on seasonal produce. As starter I had the spring salad with swordfish delicate and tasty. As main course I chose the catch of the day, which was a duo of skrei (Norwegian cod) and trout served with a mushroom sauce: quite generous and tasty portion, the fish was very fresh. As sweet I indulged myself with a delicious sample of mango sorbet, mousse au chocolat, coconut ice cream, and orange sponge cake. Unfortunately Switzerland has always had a high price structure, even in the countryside. The (expensive) bill amounted to CHF91. Admittedly not to everyone’s budget, but the excellent food and great service are well worth it.
I received a very warm welcome from the service staff and boss. Was served immediately and felt at home. The food was very good and there was nothing missing. Very satisfied. Always happy Kind regards Fiffi's Beauty's
