Claxon's Smokehouse Grill - Altoona

We went to this restaurant on a Friday night at 8:30pm, not realizing they closed at 9pm. We felt rushed during our meal and couldn't relax and enjoy our food. The 14oz prime rib was tasty but had a lot of fat. The ambiance could have been improved with dimmer lights or a candle on the table. A complimentary basket of bread and butter would have enhanced the dining experience. The hostess and server were great. Overall, the service was excellent. The price per person was $20-30. I would rate the food 4/5, service 5/5, and atmosphere 3/5. I would recommend trying the corn dish.

The restaurant is definitely not affordable, and I understand that prices can go up due to inflation. However, the cost of dining here is almost the same as eating at the Big Steer or Johnny's Italian Steakhouse, which is a bit unreasonable. I ordered an extra side with my meal but never received it. The food came out very hot, so I had to let it cool down for my 1 and 1/2 year old. The 12 oz steak that my oldest child ordered was tough, and the pulled pork sandwich I ordered had a slimy texture. The brisket was rubbery and extremely difficult to chew. In terms of service, I would rate it a 4 out of 5. The atmosphere was a 2 out of 5. Overall, I paid over $100 per person for dinner here.

Whenever we visit this restaurant, it's always amazing. We brought our in-laws this past weekend and they couldn't stop praising the food. They are already planning to come back and try more dishes. The service was excellent, we rated it a 5 out of 5. The atmosphere was also great, we gave it a 5 out of 5 rating as well. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience.

If you like Cajun ribs, this is the place for you, I couldnt eat them after first bite. Also had some ham, good, Brisket and Chicken, was ok, not much smoke flavor. Service and Atmosphere was great.
