Golden Lion Bar And Restaurant

We booked for a Sunday lunch. Great meal and very pleasant surroundings. It is a proper hotel and you are well looked after. We would certainly recommend it.

Cheerful service, tasty food. I had the seafood pasta really delicious. Some of the other meals looked huge !

Hi called In here tonight with 2 friends intending to have a meal.We went in at approx 7 pm and ordered our drinks at the bar.There was a table of 8 ladies on a table at the front of the room.When we asked about a meal we were told ,I’ve got a very large party in so I can’t serve anymore meals at the present time (8 meals).We waited around 20 mins and I thought i will go and order and pay for our meals.I was told we have a big party in so no meals . No sorry or nothing.After 10 mins we looked over and here is the barmaid sitting on her backside.She then came to the table and said il take your order now.We all said no thanks after the way we were spoke to.We finished our drinks(which would definitely no have ordered had we know )and left.We walked across the road to the lifeboat pub ordered our food and served and food on table in just over 10 mins.There was 4 times as many customers in.Our meal was beautiful and we were treated with respect.We will definitely no be visiting the Golden lion again,Lifeboat all the way lovely food ,much cheaper and very pleasant staff

Nice place with views out to the water. Food was ok, nothing special, extremely big portions. I couldn’t make a dent in my pasta. They did seem to be under-staffed, one poor guy seemed to be barman and waiter for the whole business.

After having difficulty finding somewhere to eat in Maryport we thought we had struck it lucky. There was a board outside advertising food, we went in and ordered drinks but when we asked fir the menu were told that food was on the other side but we could take our drinks with us. We were then stopped by two different members of staff who told us that we could not take drinks through but as we had already been told we could they would 'allow ' us to. The menu looked delicious but the waiter and waitress who served us were clearly not happy in thier work. One managed a little smile but the other was not a happy bunny. The food was okay but marred by the atmosphere. We then asked for espressos but were told they couldn 't do them after 9pm! That 's a new one for us. Really odd. When we went to pay we thought we would leave a tip but were told that management keep them. For us that is a complete no no. The management I am sure make a lot more than thier staff and gain thier profits from running a prosperous business and should care for thier staff. Spoilt what should have been a special night for us.
