We've been to Alencon a few times and our preferred restaurant was shut, so we wandered around the town and ended up here. The good points were that the waiters were friendly and helpful, they allow dogs in the restaurant, and our shared starter was really tasty. I had some sort of fish for my main course, which was fine but nothing special and very plainly served. My husband had an extremely meaty meal lots of different types of pork and sausages with choucroute which he didn't enjoy, but really it was his fault for ordering it. Our puddings were so average that I can't remember what they were only that they were average. But the waiters were pleasant and the restaurant became quite full with locals, so they must be doing something right.

I visit Alençon a few times a year and this used to be a favourite. Last visit was a big disappointment. The service was mediocre. I had a ‘choucroute de la mer’ which was good, until I bit into a rotten prawn. When I reported this to the waiter, he brushed it away. Another in my party had tagliatelli with what should have been ‘une poêlée de St Jacques avec ail et persil’. There was 4 scallops and they had hardly seen any garlic or persil. Again, the manageress brushed the complaint away and considered that we just did not understand how the cooking should be done. It was not pleasant.

Suggested by the hotel and have to say although the only option that was available on a Sunday night. we where a group of 9 people and they made us very welcome, great service, great food at not a bad price, had the best Hache Steak and the steaks the rest of the group had were highly praised.
