The Boatshed Cafe - Albert Park

After an unsuccessful attempt to hire bikes out the front of MSAC and my kids being kicked off the casual shooting basketball courts after 20 mins, our day out to Albert Park Lake was turning out to be disappointing. But then we stumbled across the Boat Shed Cafe. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful. They had already packed up the paddle boats for the day but they kindly went out and brought 2 back in so my kids and their cousins could have go. I had a lovely cup of tea with the company of a friendly black swan while the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the paddle boats out on the lake. Thank you Boat Shed Cafe. You saved the day.

You can get snacks, drinks, coffees, hire a pedalo or a yacht, or just watch the waterfowl (including black swans) here. The breeze from the lake is cool on a hot summer's day and the cafe/boat hire is open 7 days a week (09:00-17:00 weekdays and 08:00-19:00 on weekends). There is some shade here, too. The service can be poor when they are focused on clearing tables and doing dishes.

This cafe, co located with the small boat hire business, has been on the lake since the end of WW2. 20 years ago it was rebuilt for the then long term tenants but it now has new tenants. Light snacks, pies, coffee, tea, cake, ice cream and lollies are offered. In the distant past the original tenants had to stop some new Australian's duck hunting on the lake after WW2. This area is now a state park.

We stopped for a quick refuel while walking around the lake! Good selection of health drinks and cold press.
