I had the curry wheels and that was the first time I had it and that was spicy and so good, great recommendation Becky! Can't wait to visit here and eat again.
The best ramen in Albany and one of the best in NY! The combination of aromas in soup make it amazing. Breadh is amazing, the meat melts perfectly in your mouth and noodles. It got a new age retro look and was a diner in his previous life and gave him a unique feeling for a Japanese restaurant. Get Sami Bombs the Tonkotsu their popular Rarmen option.
Server was very friendly had some good suggestions for a few undecided buyers (all looked good). The pork chops, Tanpopo Spicy Ramen and Curry Ramen ordered. Both rams drove me away with their wealth, depth and satisfying bite. A little spicy heat with the curry was particularly beautiful.
I found Tanpopo Ramen and Sake Bar while I was looking for Yelp to eat the last time in Albany. I live in Vermont and go to Albany for a “minimum holiday” on my days from running my own restaurant. So it took a few weeks to make it and I drove straight from Vermont to Tanpopo on a Monday night after I worked. I knew when I was going to the LOVE IT restaurant. Tanpopo is located in Albany’s Warehouse District, which is quite full of restaurants (strong representation from the "pub" sector. I love authentic old town. Not unusual, not pretentious. Life and history have happened here and people are still here. That's what we want in our cities. Large street with much easier, on the street, free parking. I arrived at 6:30. Tanpopo is located in a diner car located on the National Registry of historic places. Think 1920s diner, NOT 1950s diner... The building is wood not the shiny metal of the 50s, with the arched roof. Inside, stands along the walls are a counter/bar with comfortable height seats and a separate elevated counter/bar for community seats or a larger group of people. The vibe is FANTASTIC. It is a small room with a small team (only one or two people waiting tables . The staff is great! Friendly, upbeat, GOOD, what they do. I don't drink beer, but they have a good selection of beer on tap and a whole cocktail and sake menu. I was right. The menu is not huge, but you've probably come for ramen and everyone can get ramen here. I don't eat beef, pork or poultry (perhaps all their pigs are menu items FIRE, according to my waitress Alex . So I got herb ramen and added fish cake and egg. If you want vegan rugs, you just need to vegan after the herbal rugs and they will take off for rice noodles. My ram was DELICIOUS. FANTASTIC taste. I had eaten a few things before the rams came and I got, you know, unhappyly full. But I, Ramen. Freaking delicious broth and ingredients and excellent noodles! I also ate: Edamame (to forget to take a picture and they were perfect; Seared Peppered Tuna Salad: Delicious salad full of sliced tuna over beautiful, crisp Romaine and delicious combination of sauces for dressing; Vegetable Gyoza: made in house, VERY good, with more a variety of vegetables in them than I gyoza in any other vegetables. And... steamed buns with the claws!! I was so excited to get damped bungalows with seafood. You were great! Buns were so beautiful and cuddly. Baked oysters were huge and fresh and crisp. Above: Everything in this Diner car is authentic. Includes the fantastic, original, TINY small bathroom with even TINIER small sink. Below: This place is in no way accessible, shape or shape. Even if you could come in, you could not use this original small bathroom. I would go so far to say you must be under a certain size to use these bathrooms... Upside: You can order online easily and I would bet the waitstaff would be more than willing to bring your order to your car if you could not enter. Also! The early evening summer sun in the windows behind me was everything! I'm back.
Nice place to chill. There are beer, sake and good ramen. This was the first time I tried Curry ramen. It is delicious but spicy, not recommend if you can't eat spicy food. But if you're fan of spicy for or want something hot during cold days, it is a good choice? I ordered: pork belly bun and Shrimp curry ramen (options of chicken, shrimp...
