Friendly service from the chefs and servier staff. eating is okay. it feels a little like fast food sushi, but quality is there. I like that they can go there alone or with their whole family / group of friends. it's sociable.
I?m not sure why it took us so long to try Katsu. We?ve been living aboard our boat in Alameda for 3 years and have been to other Japanese restaurants on the island. Maybe we assumed it would be too expensive since it is on Webster. Or maybe we thought parking would be an issue like other spots on Webster. Neither of these excuses were true. Our first visit to Katsu was excellent with ample free parking in the back, excellent service from the staff from the minute we walked in the door and delicious, beautiful, well prepared sushi dishes at reasonable prices. This is our new sushi goto in Alameda, hands down.
The experience was decent, and this is my first time sharing a review. I ordered a few pieces of nigiri, the Lion King roll, and the Hot for Heaven's Sake roll. The Lion King roll was underwhelming and lacked flavor. The Hot for Heaven's Sake roll was satisfactory, although some ingredients seemed to get lost in the container. The staff was fine, and I’d be open to returning for another try.
We ordered the King Kong, Lion King, Deluxe Spicy Tuna, and Blonde Bombshell rolls. The King Kong was probably my favorite. The Lion King wasn't as good as the one at Sushi House, but it was definitely worth trying.
