Cafe de l'horloge - Aix-en-Provence

Usually restaurants and cafes stop serving lunch menu around 13.00 or slightly afterwards and for non-locals this can be a headache - if you miss the lunchtime several places close totally or serve only beverages. Well, I saw L'Horloge serving lunch menu to guests as late as 14.30 and this fact alone is worth a high rating in my mind. The service was good and food was OK as well.

The café is situated along a nice square and its (heated) terrace is surrounded by several others .. we felt the service was average (waiter first forgot to order and bring our drinks) .. selection of drinks was average (we requested a Henri Bardouin pastis but that was not available)

We came here two nights in row because it was a peaceful place to sit on the square and have drinks.We I'm only had wine and olives, but good.Second time there we spoke with waiter Fabrisi who spoke good English and was personable and suggested we visit certain places.Setting is perfect.

We order pancakes with sugar and a coffee. We received cold pancakes and the sugar was kidnapped. We asked for the check and the waiter calculated the amount at our table. It was 4 euro extra (total amount should have been 19 euro) than the prices on the card. When we indicated that, explanation was: prix de saison. No such thing was mentioned on the card. We didn't pay the extra, but please be aware....

Excellent value for the money for lunch between 12:00 and 14:00. While eating, my girlfriend and I also looked at other tables: great dishes for some 12 to 15 EUR. As for those not satisfied with the service: one should understand, that this is just the French way of behaving.
