Unfortunately this pub has gone downhill fast. From the food to the service to the staff well the landlord who clearly let's anything be! Such a shame once was a nice local to what it is now
Took my mum here for Mother's Day the food and service was fantastic. Made to feel very welcome and atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Definitely recommend for a delicious meal with good quality produce
I met a friend there yesterday for a lunchtime catch up, because we have been there before in the winter and love the cosy snug at the back. However, not only was the fire in the lovely fireplace not lit, there is now a round table shoved in front of the fireplace, flanked by 2 large chairs. It was a cold day and didn’t feel much warmer inside. I went to the bar to ask where the light bites menu was, to be told that everything was in the menu I had in my hand. Gone are the Welsh Rarebit type snacks. Just sandwiches or a choice of 3 paninis. We were told there was “no ham and no cod”. My friend settled for a cheese sandwich and I went for a tuna and cheddar panini. My friend said the sandwich was ok, nothing special. My panini was hot and that’s about all it had going for it. Just a pale colour with brown stripes from the sandwich toaster and squashed flat like a pancake. We would have also preferred our small glasses of wine to be in a small glass rather than a large one which made them look like half finished drinks! When I got home it took several hours for my feet to warm up even though I had put thick socks and leg warmers on! My friend told me she had to wrap herself in a fleeced blanket to warm up.I really would advise the new owners to use the fire in the snug because it was such a feature.I would also suggest that someone uses a cloth and some Mr Muscle to clean off the dirty grey patch which surrounds the metal plate on the toilet doors where people push the door to enter. It is on both toilet doors and the gents goes off the restaurant. I was there for a Christmas lunch a few weeks ago (which was enjoyable), but I jokingly commented to my friends that the dirty toilet door was putting me off my food. Not sure how long the new people have been there, but I would suggest that they make a few adjustments before they lose custom. My friend and I have crossed it off our list of future lunch venues.
Sunday lunch here very average. Limited menu. No pies as promised when booking! Overcooked meat. Veg ok. No starters available either. Bit disappointing all round.
