Star House Chinese Restaurant

Been dining here for many years but sadly this will be the last time. Prices have literally doubled in recent months. Average cost per item now $14.00, up from about $7.00 last year. $19.80 for two desertspoon sized servings of mango pudding? Seriously. And let's not mention the tea. One could be forgiven for thinking they are dining 5 star in Sydney!

Without a doubt one of the worst Chinese meals I have ever had. The Peking Duck was really greasy, as was the fried rice. Overall the worst meal I have had in years. The crispy beef was chewy and tasteless. I was horrified to see the disclaimer in the menu that they use MSG after we had ordered… My advice do not eat here!

Got a table on NYE without a booking and it wasn't even half full but got the eye roll on arrival. There's no online booking though, you have to phone! Restaurant itself is large and comfortable. They no longer do the trolleys, so you fill in an order form with your choices. This was collected, added to theor system and next minute food started to flow. Most the dishes were delicious but was super disappointed that there were no prices on one whole side of the dim sum menu. My partner and I are light eaters and we have never spent over $70 on a session. The bill came to $100! And you can't question it because there's no prices to check! Was annoyed as the worst dish of the day, the vegetarian spring rolls (3) were dearer than almost all other dishes and they were so bland! Will return but not on a budget day!
