Cafe Concerto - York

The Banoffee pie is absolutely incredible! The service is friendly and fast, I highly recommend it!

I hadn't visited this restaurant in years because it always seemed a bit rundown from the outside. However, when I went with a friend, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was homemade and delicious. We tried the club sandwich and the chicken and smoked cheese sandwich, both of which were really tasty. We also couldn't resist trying the cakes - the flapjack was delicious and the key lime pie was decent. While Birdie's Perch still reigns supreme for the best cakes, I will definitely be returning to this restaurant. Thank you for a pleasant dining experience.

Located right by York Minster, this small café offers great views of its west front from tables by the window. The décor features warm and cheerful colors, resembling a Mexican restaurant, but the theme is musical, with instruments and sheet music lining the walls. The menu boasts a variety of lunch options, including sandwiches, salads, and jacket potatoes. Daily specials like soup, sandwiches, and frittatas are also available. We both enjoyed the frittata special of the day, made with goats cheese, potato, artichoke hearts, and rosemary, served with salads and fresh fruit. To drink, I had ginger and lemongrass sparkling water, while my companion opted for still water. We ended our meal with a pot of earl grey tea and were able to relax without feeling rushed, despite it being a busy lunch time. The bill for two was reasonable.

Cafe Concerto is trying to be that which York severally lacks; a Parisian style cafe with a chic menu and surrounds. With a view of the Minster and offset from one of the most picturesque streets in york it has location on its side. However, it is pricey ! And if you are wanting a course lunch dinner, well i would go elsewhere as you can find nicer for less. Buuuuuuuut where the Concerto shines is with its desserts. The carrot cake is heaven and portions are HUGE! go empty then you can re-fuel for more more more! They also offer a tempting duet of cakes, where you can have smaller slices from tempting sweets if you can't make your mind up! Another delight is their sticky toffee pud. Hit this place at the right time on a Sunday and as all desserts are homemade' daily there comes an o'clock when they are keen to serve all that they have made for the day to avoid throwing any away. It is now that portion sizes increase some more! :-DA time to avoid is Sunday early afternoon then the domain of young families with more than one excitable child running about the place the cafe gets busy super quick and very noisy. So for a relaxing brunch hit later afternoon and take refuge behind an over-sized cappuccino mug (v. large) and fabulous slice(s) of something sweet. Then roll outside to admire the views and take a tour of the walls. Sunday's really don't get better than this!
