If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I would. My husband has been spending summers in the area since he was 9 years old. He had very fond memories of this restaurant and wanted to take me there for New Years Eve. We just bought a farm in Alton and needed a night out. Positive: The restaurant decor and ambience is adorable. Maybe 10 tables max perfect size. Not so positive: We had an 8p reservation. It was NYE, so the restaurant was pretty full. There was only one server working, and she didn't seem very experienced. Tough situation for her and the guests. The wine glasses on the table were dirty, and we were missing a water glass. No biggie. We noted it once the server got to us and ordered cocktails. The wine list is appallingly poor. There are so many reasonably priced French wines (this is supposed to be a French bistro after all . We settled on a 2018 Cote de Rhône (2018??? Seriously?? . It was awful, as expected. Think the wine equivalent of Listerine. From the moment we sat down, it was clear that the staff did not want to be working on NYE. We were pressured to order all of our courses immediately. We prefer a more leisurely dining experience and were instantly turned off. We felt rushed from the moment we walked in the door. Later, our server told us that the restaurant had been closed for 2 mos., and NYE was their first day back in action. I'm not really sure why they felt the need to open?!?! Someone (perhaps the owner? came out from the kitchen to serve food. She was dressed in workout gear. I kid you not! I'm no snob, but maybe a pair of jeans would be more appropriate? The food was....odd. This restaurant wants to be Italian. There is really no French fare on the menu. I had the carbonara risotto. It was good if not a tad runny. My husband had the potstickers. Again, good but a weird menu item for a French bistro. For salads, we ordered a wedge and a Caesar. The Caesar was awful, and the blue cheese dressing on the wedge tasted weird. I had the duck breast for my main. It was ok. It needed a proper sear. It came with another risotto (there are 3 on the little menu . This one was LADEN with goat cheese and was inedible. The berry compote that accompanied the duck was just ok (perhaps from a jar . The dish was garnished with fresh blackberries and strawberries. Again...weird. My husband had the chicken piccata. He was non plussed. The chicken was overly breaded (think chicken nuggets . We skipped dessert. We'd had enough and couldn't bear the feeling of being rushed any longer. The meal cost $250 which was absurd for the quality of the food and experience. We won't be returning. FYI La Boca is the best restaurant in Wolfeboro, not this place.

Great service, very comfy atmosphere. AMAZING new bar they installed recently, great place to have a date night or a celebratory dinner. We love Mise en Place!
