Friday morning. I went into café Rouge as I do most mornings for two cups of coffee and a glass of chilled water and the chance to sit in peace and look at my newspaper. This morning (29.18.14) was a crisis, part of the electricity supply had failed. The manager of the day (Jess) said she could only offer me decaffeinated coffee, I was quite happy with this and the effort that the staff were going to see that customers were satisfied. This reminds me of an occasion some weeks ago when I went in for breakfast. I looked through the menu and was undecided between two choices, the manager on that day (Bianca) was kind enough to give me what I wanted from the two menus. Great service, thank you.
Eating was not as good as I would have hoped. the crab starter was bland and would have hit from the uptake of some brown cocks. the bouillabaisse was not as good as we at the caffe rouge. the content was ok, but the taste was missing. the last cure was good. it is a shame that no typical English beer is on stock, as many are available (i.e. tanglefoot from dachs, abbot aus green könig and london pride von fullers. and have an extended durability). the service was very good and the staff helpful. I have a personal dislike against paper napkins.
Cafe rouge seems to have improved lately. was three times in a short order and enjoyed it every time.
We had a nice evening that celebrated my 50th birthday, although we were very surprised to be the only table in the restaurant around 20 o'clock on a Saturday night! there were some people sitting outside for an evening.
