It was a very odd experience trying this place out and if you 're not fluent in Spanish you 'll likely have a similar experience. I had to squeeze by a few guys hanging out on the steps outside the place and inside there was just one lady who didn 't speak any English. Aside from a few shelves of Latin grocery items there was an area that must occasionally hold hot food items to-go. I came around 3pm on a weekday and it was completely empty. Perhaps it 's full earlier in the afternoon. Unfortunately there was no menus or prices listed anywhere so I just asked for the one thing listed on their banner outside: pupusas (a filled and grilled cornmeal cake from El Salvador/Honduras). The lady asked: meata? , assuming she was asking if I wanted a meat filling and not knowing the other options, I agreed to 2 meata pupusas . She immediately got to work making them from scratch. Not seeing any credit card machine or ATM I assumed it was cash only and left to grab some cash. By the time I came back there were two piping hot meat pupusas ready for me with along with a baggie of tomato sauce and a baggie of some kind of cole slaw. By the register she had a basket full of slices of what I could only assume was bread pudding. I got a slice and it was quite good. The two pupusas and bread pudding only came up to $6.50. I found the pupusas slightly too oily and salty but still thought they had a great flavor. You can 't beat the freshness, authenticity, and value of what she 's making here. It 's one of the tastiest and most affordable things you can grab in Waldwick, that 's for sure. I 'd love to see what else they serve here, hopefully they eventually come up with some sort of menu where I could at least point to what I 'd like to try.
My wife and I love this place for breakfast or lunch. The eggs with onions/tomatoes tortillas with there house made salsas and sauces makes a great breakfast burrito. Lunch buffet is made with love! Great hole in the wall place for a bite outside the norm that your used to. Let your tastebuds explore Central American! ?
It 's ok, I 've had worse! The thing I didn 't like about this place was that they treated me like I wasn 't even there after I walked in placed my order and I didn 't get a n acknowledgement that it was going to get prepared since the old man didn 't say the least when I placed my order, although he was "chatty "with the person before me, who knows! Maybe because I was courteous and respectful.I just felt they need to work on their customer relations, the food namely the pupusas were good, a bit salty for my taste however the peppered cabbage/Cole slaw which is indeed called [curtido] pronounced {Coor-tee-doh} was good.I did like that and the pupusas, I think that they felt a bit vulnerable by my appearance, can 't blame them, but it 's just my opinion, overall the food was good, better than most I 've had, and I ought to know I have them from my mother that had her own joint back in her days and still makes them quite often, as well as my sister in law and my wife, I really am an expert on the subject at least I think so. ?So, that 's all, their pupusas are worth trying they 're good, maybe next time I 'm in the area and stop by they 're in a better mood for I will stop by again despite that.
Bunch of crooks .. They will charge you for a pack of cigarettes, even when you don’t buy one. And then, when you go back into the store to get your money back, they act like YOU’RE The liar. They’re a bunch of crooks beware.
