My sweetie and I enjoyed a lovely brunch at this small but classy-cute eatery in Kits. It was our first visit, we were enticed by a brunch Groupon for two discounted meals. The restaurant was full on a Sunday at 1pm. The coffee was excellent and the Eggs Benedict were divine. The service had room for improvement, but was still good. Will return at full price. Those Groupons are a great way to try out new places - I always surf through them to pick out a place to eat before making a reservation. TIP, when you go to a new city - check their local groupons/living social and travelzoo websites for discounts too.
We were having a nice experience until my wife's dinner arrived. The Halibut she ordered had bacon in it. We don't eat bacon, the cook and server should have know this as the Appy we ordered had bacon and we requested to have it removed. Secondly the description in the menu did not include bacon. Thirdly, I ended up eating my meal on my own and she ate her food on her own. Obviously this was not enjoyable. We expected a little more then a casual apology but that is all we got. Finally the bill included the halibut on it and also included 15% gratuity. When we brought this to their attention it was removed. However the original bill also had the halibut discounted. So why do they do this? So that we paid the gratuity on the halibut which was an extra $5.00. Wow, very clever in cheating the customer.
No one is thrilled to hear one of your favorite restaurants has been sold. (I can think of a few I wish would sell ...) So when Bistro changed hands this year we were concerned. Now after a few visits (brunch - lunch - dinner) we're relieved to see the high quality of food, excellent service and sane wine list continue. The menu has changed with new French dishes which is fun. The classics remain as good as ever. We will always miss John - but his baby is in great hands. Bravo.
The ownership changed around the end of 2016 as Jean (John) said goodbye to his beautiful restaurant. The new owners have kept up the high standards. The food is delicious, great service and wonderful ambience. We were delighted with our waiter Ben who was so good.Bravi Pastis!
