Contribuiți la feedbackWood oven experienceThere were four of us who went to the Four à bois hoping to spend a pleasant evening and have a good meal…Correct welcome. Wood fired pizza, OK squid, rather bland cauliflower soup. The height of inconvenience, a false Osso buco known as Milanese style. The chef should review this name and I know what I'm talking about after having been to Italy several times and having Italian friends. Here is the description of the real Milanese Osso buco: sections of veal shanks braised in white wine garnished with vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, leeks all with a spicy tomato flavor and garnished with Gremolata (mixture of parsley, anchovies, lemon and garlic . I received a pork shank (noted on the menu , stuffed with a lot of fat, in a fairly salty brown sauce without vegetables. Next to it, 3 4 carrot sticks and two pieces of broccoli and without Gremolata of course. As an accompaniment to the menu I had the choice of pasta with cream, rice, baked potatoes, fries. I opted for the pasta with cream but I paid $8 for this small container of fettucini stuck in a sauce that was too thick. After mentioning this extra charge to the waiter, he admitted to me that it was he who should have told me that there was a charge for this accompaniment but he did not do so. The menu contains ambiguities in this regard. Only one of us had a coffee and a dessert, the waiting time was long despite the lack of traffic. The coffee arrived well after dessert was finished. The server Clovis did his best despite the ups and downs of the dinner. We do not recommend this restaurant. If you want to go there, take the time to read the many comments… it’s up to you to judge. Surprising for a restaurant that has been open for such a long time.P.S. I did not return the dish, because it seems that according to some comments the waiter has to pay for it out of his own pocket.
The Salad Nicoise was made with dark canned tuna. There was no egg nor green beans as listed on the menu. Lettuce was cut with a blade. It had no taste. The hot goat cheese salad was supposed to be vegetarian, but had bacon in it. there was just one other couple in the restaurant and we’re completely ignored. We asked for water refill and never got it. We had to leave our table to find our waitress to pay the bill.
Restaurant to avoid if you want to eat well and do it in a reasonable time.We were 6 seated for lunch. The service was correct although very familiar in tone and gestures. It took well over 1 hour before we received our plates. Plates for which there were several errors and omissions: a burnt omelet was served instead of the Benedictine ordered, the waitress trying to convince us that it was indeed the right dish; two over-cooked eggs that arrived punctured and ultra-cooked on the verge of burnt; a bacon egg without bacon, we had to ask twice to bring the missing bacon; the plates arriving without baked beans and the waitress who tells us in a rather cavalier way that we have to ask for it when it is written in the menu as a component of the plate. The Benedictine, which finally arrives after a long time, is overcooked, the eggs are hard-boiled…In short, a real disaster. We took the trouble to calmly mention everything to the waitress who at this moment became more kind and “sweet”. However, nothing has been proposed to remedy the problems and errors. The waitress left with the overcooked egg, grabbing it with her bare hands directly from the plate to show it in the kitchen. We then heard the cook complaining that he can't manage everything at once (bread, eggs, meat… .?? In the end, no replacement eggs were brought. So I strongly advise you to have lunch elsewhere.
A bit dirty , service is friendly but a bit slow.Food was ok and priced
Just over the street from Hotel Gouverneur. Excellent, with the breakfasts being amazing value for money. Only 8.95 CAD, plus taxes and tip, for a cooked breakfast, with toast, lots of fresh fruit and coffee.
