Contribuiți la feedbackMy husband and I have been coming to Kampai for years. The hibachi is outstanding. The sushi is out of this world. The service is personal, intimate and top tier. This restaurant is a genuine example of a small business that grew because they knew/know what they are doing. This place never misses.
This place is still holding strong, and they do a great job of being versatile. Whether you are interesting in hosting a birthday celebration or just swinging in with one other person, they do a good job of being kind and courteous. The sushi is great, and most of their food is good. Kampai is right up there with Fushimi and similar places, however their atmosphere is vastly superior to anywhere else in the area, for sure.
I 'm all for supporting our local restaurants, and I love places with decades long history, but this is the 3rd disappointing order and, I think, I 'm done. SO disappointed!!!! They gave me the time to pick up, and made me wait another 30 min as they pack the order (and this is the 3rd time now that they 're that late. Also, the restaurant only had 5-6 tables of people so they weren 't busy). I ordered whole bunch of sushi rolls and other dishes. Charging $15-20 for 8-piece quarter-size rolls is a rip off, in my opinion, and none of the rolls I ordered were thicker than a diameter of a quarter. I asked to add cucumber to spicy tuna rolls, they added white mayonnaise to the rolls (all smeared out) and they weren 't even spicy. That was disgusting. The ginger had an artificial, detergent-like taste so we literally had to dump it out (no other good sushi restaurant in town, in NYC, Miami, or west coast I 've ever been to ever had ginger that tasted like that). We honestly didn 't like any of the sushi rolls we ordered. And finally the worst: all the hot and cold dishes were packed in clear plastic containers. I made a comment in the past that hot food should never be packed in those clear plastic containers and I made a comment this time as well (and even the employee agreed with me), but I don 't think they listen to their customers. Why would you put a hot soup or a hot dish in a clear plastic container?? That 's just common sense! I don 't think I will ever order food from this place.
Came here because of its high rating and recommendation from a local, but I was emotionally crushed by the time I walked out. As far as Japanese food goes, the food here is as far from Japan as it is physically. It was terrible, simply put. I never write reviews but this place is an exception. The wings were sub par and the chicken in my entree was dry. My soup was so odd and I did not enjoy it. Maybe the hibachi is better, but I don’t know if I will ever come back to try it.
Kampai is our family's favorite restaurant. As always the hibachi was excellent and our chef made the whole experience so much fun. The food is always so good and the service is top notch. If you're looking for good food and fun try the hibachi at Kampai. You won't be disappointed.
