1st time dining there and it was a wonderful experience. We had the pleasure of speaking directly with the owner and he was extremely welcoming and helpful with the menu. Will definitely dine there again soon.
First time there celebrating our anniversary . Loved the food, service and ambience. Would definitely recommend. We will be back!
Il Portico is one of our very favorite restaurants. We stumbled upon it in searching for a restaurant that was midway between our home in central NJ and our friends' home in Connecticut and have been back multiple times since. Even though it is an hour's drive from our house, we think it is well worth the trip. The ambience, in the restored old house, is lovely relaxed and quiet (nice to be able to hold a conversation without straining). The service is outstanding attentive without hovering or being overly formal. The owner (Peppe) greets you warmly (even though it had been a few months since our last visit, I was impressed about how much he remembered of our conversation) and our waitress (Paige) was very helpful in walking us through the menu and being sure we had what we needed. And the food is terrific tasty and good sized portions. On our last visit, my wife had the bronzino which was obviously fresh and well prepared and I had the short ribs which were very tender and stick to your ribs good! At the risk of making it too popular (although Peppe is very attentive to managing the reservations so that he can maintain the high quality dining experience), I cannot recommend it highly enough!
Both our meals were delicious. For an appetizer we split the baby arugula, fresh mozzarella, avocado, quinoa, roasted pickled peppers, olive oil. For our entrees we had Homemade Potato Gnocchi the Homemade Tagliatelle Bolognese and we ended with gelato. Staff was a joy to interact with and Peppe is a delight and always enjoyable to talk to. Can’t wait to go back.
