Simeon's Family Restaurants - Sydney

First time dining here and it was great! My wife had the poached Atlantic salmon for dinner I had the meat pie with mashed potatoes, gravy carrots. Very tasty so much like a home-cooked meal. The staff were cheerful upbeat. Overall a very welcome dining experience. Hats off to Cindy Carollee , the owners. We will be coming back for sure!

We stopped here on a Friday night just over a week ago and were pretty surprised. The place definitely has an old school feel to it and needs a lot of work, but that often means the owners make up for it in other ways. In this case not so much. Our server had maybe 5 tables, and there were only about 12 tables occupied and 3 servers on. Our server took our order and the food that came out was a surprise. We both ordered fries as a side, and both plates had undercooked (soggy, white) fries that were obviously cheap frozen. The remainder of our meals were OK. Our server did not return to our table during the entire meal to ask if everything is OK but as important to refill our waters. We did listen to her laugh and carry on with a table of about 6 behind us for at least 5 minutes. She only returned to remove our plates, we mentioned our disappointment with the fries (which remained 90% uneaten), she said little and brought our bill and complained how busy they were and how she couldn 't get a minute to do anything (except laugh with people in the corner). While waiting for our meals I did go to the men 's washroom, it had no TP, paper towel or a working hand dryer. Oddly enough we heard a regular older gentleman at paying for his meal just as we got our 's and when my friend went to the men 's room it was still the same way, about 30 minutes later. We understand things happen and many places chalk it up to Short staffed but the owners literally had a sign up saying WE RE NOT HIRING AT THIS TIME. Sure the prices are somewhat decent, but you definitely do not get what you pay for.

The food was great with large portions, and those homemade pies are to die for. We will be back on our return trip from newfoundland!
