We had a scrumptious meal of chicken and ham pie and vegetable curry. The pie was beautiful and big. Just what you need after a longish walk around the area. The curry was robust and tasty and dry! Most unusual as they are normally sloshing around. It had a lovely selection of veg too, not just peas and carrots! A superb pint washed it down and a berry crumble all home made- was delicious. For the nerdy real ale people I'm really sorry but I can't remember the name of the beer! Sorry!
This place is amazing a traditional country pub, but all the staff were genuinely nice, a good selection of real ales, and amazing food. An absolute delight. This was our planned lunch stop on a walk on 27 December, it had taken us 45 minutes longer to get there than we anticipated due to the snow and icy conditions underfoot. Arriving at the opposite end of Litton we took a walk through to get to the Red Lion on the outside it looks a typical country pub, and the interior too, however it lacked the usual naff and tacky bits that so often ruin pubs. The staff gave us a greeting that you would normally associate with far grander venues, and our order was efficiently taken. The food arrived shortly after and i was bowled over. I opted for the veggie sausages and mash. The sausage were cooked to perfection, the mash was amazing, the onion gravy delicious, and the vegetables that arrived with it were also cooked to perfection. The meals of my co walkers also looked to be of a similar quality. There was a good choice of real ales on, and they had obviously been selected with walkers in mind as 2 of them were very light and refreshing. All in all it was an amazing visit, and i would not hesitate to make the trek back there again.
Don't do it! Heard mixed reviews about this place but thought we would head here for lunch and give it a try. We had a lucky escape as luckily children aren't allowed in. Walked round, before being rudely asked to leave, and saw a dog in a cage on a table and general muck. Completely agree with the negative reviews we have seen.
