Waterfront dinning enclosed in a large tent to keep you warm. I arrived pretty chilled from the rain so ordered a small fish soup to start. It was tomato based and had large chunks of fish and macaroni noodles. For main I had octopus and shrimp with bacon and with rice. The rice along with the dish was really salty. Paired it with a nice Vinho Verde to wash it down. Was going to try desert but got caught up in conversation and running out of time.
To start with, the waiter suggested we had a plate each of us and we ended up following his advice. Unfortunately, it was too much food and we felt “robbed” since we ended up paying for too much food. The plate I ordered —chocos (squid)— was hard as rock. When we complained no solution was offered and he was extremely rude with us. The waiter is one of bosses that day which is even worse. I do no recommend this place and my experience was very unpleasant. I wish I could give 0 stars.
Starting with the wine. The employee suggested a wine without showing us the menu. It ended up being 17 euros, for a bottle of BSE Branco Seco José Maria Da Fonseca. A wine produced in Azeitão, near Sesimbra. The famous seafood restaurant Ramiro sells this wine for 10 euros in Lisbon downtown. Then the fish. We ordered Salmonetes, priced by the kilo. The showed us the raw fish, which looked quite different from the fish we got after cooked ... One of them was so outdated that we protested. The restaurant staff said they would make an adjustment in our bill to account for the bad experience. They indeed reduced the weight from the announced 1.25 kilo to 1.1 kilo but then billed at 55 euros per kilo, while the menu referred 44 euros. They were even billing us for some tuna paste that we had never eaten. In the end, we paid more than 30 euros per person, without dessert! The next time, we 'll just pick a fine gourmet restaurant in Lisbon and pay the same price.
A typical Sesimbra restaurant that delivers a well prepared and tasty meal. Large menu to make choices from and quick service. Conveniently located along the water front with easy walking from all directions.
