Contribuiți la feedbackDuring our stay at a nearby bed and breakfast, we visited the Wheatsheaf pub two evenings in a row. On the first evening, we had a delicious salmon burger on a brioche bun with coleslaw. The second evening, we were fortunate enough to enjoy fresh scallops. The owner, Johnathan, even gave us a tour of the smokery. It's a great family business.
Amidst the dullness of lockdown, there is one shining light - the Smokery at the Wheat Sheaf. Even though the pub itself was closed, the Smokery remained open and offered a delightful selection of fresh fish and produce. I decided to pay a visit on Friday and was pleasantly surprised by the range of items available for purchase. In addition to fresh fish, I also picked up some vegetables, eggs, and bread. I couldn't resist trying out their takeaway food, opting for the brisket with dauphinois potatoes. The online tutorials made preparation a breeze, and the end result was outstanding - just as delicious as dining in the pub. Kudos to the team at the Wheat Sheaf for their innovative way of providing excellent food to their customers. I will certainly be returning soon and highly recommend a visit to the Smokery to others.
Since current restrictions only allowed for outdoor service, the pub was limited to offering service outside only. However, the food and service were outstanding. The staff made sure to provide excellent service and were very friendly, even amidst difficult circumstances.
We have eaten here quite a few times, always during the week. We normally cycle here, but this time drove. The menu always has something interesting and different. This time hubbie had monkfish with mustard mash; I chose calves liver with mash. I had 3 lovely pieces of thin, beautifully cooked liver and a huge pile of mash that I could not finish. We ordered a dish of vegetables between us, as they are needed with the main courses. There is always a good choice of vegetables, although hubbie is not fond of the Charanty carrots. The food is a little more expensive here than other places, but it is always good. The desserts are good, although we did not have any on this occasion. Cost of lunch with one large glass of wine and one water £45 with tip. Afterwards, I’d recommend that you visit their smokery shop and pick up some lovely goodies.
Had lunch there today, all 4 of us loved it, genuinely unpretentious very VERY good food, reasonably priced and with friendly knowledgeable staff. Thank you, we will definitely return!
