Pupuseria La Miguelena - Portland

My wife is from Puerto Rico and let's be honest, there isn't a ton of places around Portland that offer any Puerto Rican food so when we saw this cart had opened up we knew we wanted to give them a try, but the almost 2 hour round trip has kept us away...once we saw they had pernil and arroz con gandules for their Fathers Day weekend special we knew it was finally time to go check them out. I got there about 20 minutes before they opened and noticed their window was open so I asked when they would be ready. They let me know they still had some prep to finish up on, but they went ahead and took my order. We ended up getting two orders of the pernil, mofongo with pork belly and two orders of maduros. When I turned to fo sit down and wait they stopped me and offered me a piece of the pernil to try. It was of course my favorite piece, the crispy skin (cuerito). It was so good and it was with that one bite I knew this was worth the trip. Once I got my food I loaded up my insulated bag and headed back home. My truck smelled so good, it was hard to not pull over on the side of the road and start eating. After sitting in traffic and taking almost an hour to get home it was time to feast and it was all amazing. The pernil was so tender and flavorful with bits of whole garlic mixed into our pieces. I was pleasantly surprised to find a side of habichuelas that we immediately mixed in with our arroz con gandules. The mofongo was the perfect consistency and the bits of pork belly were so tasty. Last and certainly not least were the maduros. I love some maduros and each bite took me back to our home in Orlando. The combination of great customer service and amazing food will definitely have us coming back.

I ordered a chicken mofongo and a shrimp salad with tostones and piña coladaI liked the piña colada.

I was introduced to your cuisine by a friend. I loved the plate with steak,eggs etc, I had a friend try to buy more things to try and you were closed but I am telling people where to find your cart. Also researching your foods on utube with recipes. I am hooked!!! Everything was good quality ,seasoned just right, a perfect meal and wonderful for the taste buds. Thank you!!!

Mango doughnut holes and pork belly with citrus salad were so good it's unreal

We arrived feeling completely worn out, so I decided to order from this restaurant through DoorDash. The food was amazing; I couldn't get enough of the sweet fried plantains! The coconut soda was also fantastic.
