I freaking love and adore Abyssinian Kitchen beyond words. For me, they are the GOLD STANDARD of Ethiopian Food. The Holy Grail of Ethiopian food! I've probably been to 40 50 Ethiopian restaurants throughout my life, and I think I've been to every Ethiopian restaurant in Portland. Abyssinian is hands down the Highest Quality, the most exquisite recipes, the food is to die for. Because I'm completely obsessed with Ethiopian food and go everywhere, if it's not as good as Abyssinian Kitchen, my response is generally Meh. I've recently been to 5 restaurants in Berkeley none of them hold a candle next to this place. Personally, I'm obsessed with the Asa Dulet and the Siga and Gomen. Kitfo is great, although very spicy. Amazing shiro. I love the fact that they offer two different kinds of greens: kale and collard greens! And 100% Teff Injera. Food is banging, high quality delicious! I have not found a single Ethiopian restaurant better, and I have tried.
We had the vegetarian combo and the Asa Dulet (spicy tilapia), which was amazing. Good beers. Nice staff.
Great Ethiopian food! Loved the appetizers and entrees. Good sized portions, great staff and quite indoor seating as well as a couple nice outdoor seating options.
Spice spice spice! There are tragically few restaurants in Portland that can really bring on the heat, but this is definitely one of them! If they weren't so gosh darn far away from me, I'd be a delighted regular. The food here is perfect: juicy and tender and bursting with so much flavour you'll see stars.
