Mckay's - Porters Lake

Third time visiting McKay 's and service went from very good to okay to poor. I was going to complain to owner but found out it was the owner who was the waitress on the third visit. There were no other customers in place when we arrived for an early lunch. Waitress was smiling and friendly but she left the cleaning rag on table after wiping down a highchair, and didn 't pick up used creamer container from previous diner. I had to ask for utensils which was minor, but we only received 2 napkins for 3 people. When my chowder arrived it included crackers on the side but no roll as stated in menu; when I asked if chowder was to include a roll she said no it doesn 't ; I said I was sure I read that on menu, then she said I didn 't bring you a roll because rolls went mouldy. I didn 't want to give you a mouldy roll because that wouldn 't be good, my apologies, yes it does say it includes a roll but because of mould I didn 't give you one and then walked away. Actually I 'm sure she said mouldy 4 times in that sentence; definitely not a good image of what else could be growing in kitchen lol . Later she came back and asked how was everything, I said okay and asked if I could have some bread in lieu of roll. She brought me a slice of bread and 2 cold butters that couldn 't be spread so I dumped butter in chowder. There was no refill on coffee and she never asked if we wanted dessert. She never brought the bill so when we went to cash register to pay I asked about coffee refills with meal. She said yes my apologies, we normally do refills . Too many apologies and I am getting so tired of paying for a meal I 'll describe as adequate and then to top it off with such lousy customer service, uh uh, third and last time for this place. :

The owner took over the location about a year ago. It's a clean friendly place, where the food is cooked fresh to order (the offer take-out as well). They offer daily specials and great meals. A highlight for me is their Rt. 7 Steak Sandwich, a tasty sandwich consisting of thinly shaved AAA Steak in a sweet BBQ sauce with melted mozzarella and crispy fried shredded potatoes. Their caesar salad will have to sweating garlic that evening, it's great. I take a point off for the frozen coated french fries that come as a side, so I recommend subbing a salad for a side.

Good food, good service, my husband enjoyed the clams, I had the haddock tips , very very good. We certainly will go back.

The food is too plain as if you make the food at home so it's like home cooking, Kind of food I would stay home make instead of going out paying it for someone else, or supporting the community as so, more effort need to be put into the food menu! There is no unique flavours or unique dish. For the community that it supports it needs to step it up!

I am better making food at home nothing special about this place. Tast like food I would make at home. I look for food with taste, flavour, not as if it was home made by someone ells. Would be nice to see better food.
