Occasionally I dine at Swiss Chalet, and in person, the food is consistently good/average. Swiss Chalet is a sit-down restaurant, but we all know that it borders on fast-food. That being said, for the prices they charge, I consider it to be a proper restaurant when reviewing it.Tonight I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry, on delivery. The one dinner came to $18.92, so I was expecting one heck of a stir fry. It took 45 minutes for the dinner to arrive, which I suppose is normal. The chicken was just blobs of dark meat fat (not even meat), and the rice was total mush. The only thing edible in the meal were the vegetables.I called Swiss Chalet immediately and explained the situation. They offered to either give me a credit, or send out another stir fry. Since I was starving, I asked for another stir fry, as long as it was properly prepared. 45 minutes later, another stir fry came to my door, and this one was much bigger, full of chunks of chicken, and with rice that was correctly cooked. Perfect. While I wasn't thrilled that I had to wait an hour and a half for dinner, and don't think that restaurants should be serving the food I initially received, I was impressed by how Swiss Chalet handled the situation. I will probably visit Swiss Chalet again in person, but most likely will not order delivery.
We have been going to the Pickering location for years now. The quarter chicken dinners are always consistent and the servers are always so pleasant.
That was their jingle for a long time!. Still good but prices, like everything else have gone up. and although the chicken is still the same recipe, it has shrunk quite a bit! We were there on a Saturday at about 7pm. It was not as busy as expected. The waitress was new and did a reasonably good job. dinners came quick, but we had quite a wait for drinks and extras...Fries as always fresh not frozen. Love to
Usually I wouldn't bother writing a review about a chain restaurant. I mean - this is Swiss Chalet. I've been to lots of Swiss Chalet Restaurants. They're all pretty much the same. Unfortunately, I decided to be different. It was a staff lunch to start the new year. I like SC chicken. I like SC ribs. I've never tried their beef. So I decided to have roast beef on a kaiser with au jus and a baked potato. First warning should have been that this was the beginning of the lunch shift and there seemed to be a grand total of one (1) waitress working. A middle aged woman who was running (literally running) from table to table to take and deliver orders. But it's Swiss Chalet. How can they go wrong? Well, when my meal came it came with fries and not the baked potato I asked for. I pointed that out and to her credit this overworked waitress had the baked potato to me in a couple of minutes, leaving the fries with me as well. (Not that I could eat both). Then I realized they had brought me chalet sauce but no au jus for the sandwich (which, by the way, was a lump of dry roast beef just plopped on the middle of the kaiser). I asked for the au jus. "Did you want the au jus"? our hard-working waitress asked. Well - yeah - it's on the menu! She brought it, fairly quickly. Then I took a bite of my sandwich. I looked at my colleague across the table. "I thought the menu said it came with horse radish. There's no horse radish on this". She confirmed that horse radish was, indeed, part of the promise. While frustrated, I was actually feeling a bit sorry for the waitress by now, who still seemed completely on her own. So I let it go. I ate the sandwich. It was - OK. Nothing more. The baked potato was fine. So were the french fries (because I did eat a few). I've ordered takeout chicken from this restaurant before and it's always been fine, as you'd expect from Swiss Chalet. But I'll avoid the beef on a kaiser from now on.
