Hungry Monkey Island Style Eats In Jopl

The food was good but I was dissapointed in the way they handled the transaction. I had a coupon for BOGO. It said buy one entree get 2nd one half off. I didn't get half off of my meal, she took half off my drink. Lost my respect right there. Will not be going back

It's a great place to eat. All the food is fresh and wonderful.

I saw this place on The Best Bite In Town and had to come try it. The Garlic Shrimp Tacos and the Prickly Pear slushy I had were epic! We will be back

Such a disappointing experience. My husband and I love Maui, so when we heard about this place we had such high hopes for the Hawaiian cuisine we missed from the islands. When we knew we 'd be coming through Joplin, we made plans to stop and were so looking forward to our lunch. First, it 's downtown with minimal street parking, and even at an off time we had to park a block away in what seemed like a sketchy area even in daylight. We ordered at 1:39 and didn 't get our food until 2:10. It wasn 't busy, but there was one other table waiting for food and one man waiting on a to go order. I had a raw ahi tuna poke bowl so basically a salad. All they had to do was prepare the toppings. My husband had the loco moco. There was no excuse for a 40 minute wait for those items. UNLESS they did ask for a tip when we ordered and paid, so maybe they reverted to the true meaning of tips to insure prompt service. Since we didn 't tip, maybe that 's why they made us wait. : My poke bowl was ok. The macadamia nuts were ground so fine that they were like dust. I expected pineapple in my pineapple cabbage, but no. The ingredients were smothered in the sriracha mayo I selected; I should have asked for it on the side. The loco moco was a huge disappointment. First, pork doesn 't belong on a loco moco; it 's not authentic. Second, the egg wasn 't runny as it should have been. They should have at least given the option on how to order the egg. The rice and mac salad were just ok. The communal water dispenser had warm water and the plastic utensils were out where everyone could touch them, and forks were tines up. Not very sanitary. Food was served in styrofoam containers or plastic bowls. I get it 's not a fancy sit down place, but it seemed that they were cutting corners wherever possible. I saw another review talking about the atmosphere and loud music and agree; it wasn 't even Hawaiian or island music just loud, contemporary crap. It wasn 't worth our drive about an hour from home) and we won 't be back. Maui no ka oi and this place doesn 't cut it.

Trying to rob money while placing order and sneakily added 9 dollars to the bill. Very rude when called out asking question about why my bill was high. Would not recommend.
