Consigliatissimo.
Ran across listing for best oyster bars of the world in T & L magazine again and fondly remembered our wonderful oyster experience here on trip to Paris. First due to our extremely poor French skills and poor navigational expertise we wandered all over Paris to find this place only to discover it was just two blocks from our hotel! Anyway in our quest to eat oysters all over the world this location was a must stop. Understand that this really isn't a "restaurant" but a fish market with a few tables. It is well disguised with industrial rollup door and until open to display there seafood in iced bins on sidewalk rather nondescript. A few tables in front and few tables in back and several raw fish items on menu but we were here for oysters and oysters we had, plates of freshly shucked Belon oysters served with bottles of Muscadet Sevre et Maine. Funky seaport murals and piped seagull sounds! One of our most memorable experiences in Paris. This was funky romantic, and an oyster lovers dream. Will never miss this when in Paris.
We stumbled upon this place and had our best meal in Paris there. The owner has had the shop/bistro for over 20 years. He and his staff are knowledgeable, welcoming, and speak English. Based on our preferences, they steered us towards oysters, crab and langoustines, all to our liking and native to France. While we were there, many of the locals came in to do their shopping, proving that it's still very much a working market. A stone's throw from one of the major shopping strips, it's a must do if you're in the first arrondissement (and need to reward/entice your significant other for following you around to the stores!).
We had lunch at this place one day during our stay in Paris and while I do like it, it is very pricey and we left somewhat hungry...could have probably ordered more.We started with the salmon rillettes, which were great, served with fresh bread.Tried their seafood salad and, of course, two dozen oysters. All of this was washed down with a nice bottle of Sancerre.Service as fast and friendly. All in all, the bill came to over 150 EUR, which I do find somewhat pricey, even for Paris.
