Cafeteria "Les Compagnons de Maguelone"

We arrived at the restaurant at 13:50 and asked a waiter if we could eat. Unfortunately we speak little French. We were told by an older male waiter (in words and gestures) that since it was already so close to the kitchen closing time (14:00) we could only have drinks from the fridge, which, while rather disappointed, we purchased and had on the terrace. Note, the restaurant is open till 18:00. On leaving, we were very surprised and shocked to see that other guests who we saw arrive after 14:00 were ordering food. They spoke French. There were other new guests in the restaurant too who had been served hot drinks. This was an obvious and deliberate discrimination of guests from the UK with limited French language skills. How shortsighted and disappointing, for a place that relies on tourism. Basically, if you are British and you don’t speak French, don’t bother visiting this restaurant and spend your hard-earned money elsewhere.

This is such a special place in so many ways. Try the oysters , produced in house and wash them down with some of the domaine's own fine bio wine. All the food is fresh and original. I challenge you to find a more peaceful location than this with its views over the vines and the ocean beyond. Bravo to all the team at Maguelone. Keep up the good work.

We went to see the amazing Cathedral at Maguelone and of course felt like having a drink afterwards. How Disappointing!!!! We like milk in our coffee BUT they had run out of milk. So we left thirsty. Bad Management having a cafe without milk at 11 am. Very poor.

We stopped for a nice Croque Monsieur and drink before we carried on with our biking. Lovely restaurant in the old abbey of the Cathédrale. Great menu choices and beautifully presented. Don’t be alarmed by the staff (see some other reviews), be open minded as some are part of ESAT The ESA is a structure that allows people with disabilities to pursue a professional activity while benefiting from medical and social support and education in a protected environment. This structure welcomes people who have not acquired enough autonomy to work in an ordinary environment or in a company adapted to their needs. This is explained in the front entrance way.
