Contribuiți la feedbackI have been visiting NYC for about 30 years. I label this place, Marks Restaurant , the biggest joke, the biggest rip off in my culinarily history; its so bad, I have to laugh writing this review. To put this in perspective, I had an amazing steak lunch at in my view the best steak house in NYC, for $214.00. It was superb and I have been going there for 20 years. This rip off I spend $212.00 for a plate of prawns on ice, a burger with brie cheese, a soufflé desert, one beer and one glass of red wine. Yep you read this correctly. $212.00 !! If you have so much money, you don 't care good luck. And.... the burger was about as good as McDonalds. Always happy to pay for quality. No problem. But ....................OMG, words fail me.
Absurdly overpriced. For exampe, 16CHF bottle of wine for $140. Satisfactory food. Overall forgettable.
A friend and I had brunch at The Mark yesterday. I was 30 minutes late and was immensely grateful they held our reservation, a rare event among NYC 's hallowed temples of gastronomy! While the surroundings had an urban vibe, with sophisticates from both sides of the Atlantic littered through the lobby, and effective (if not extraordinary) service, to say that I was disappointed with the food beverage, esp. at skyscraper prices, is an understatement. This is the second JG installation I have been to in the last 3 months (the other being Nougatine), which has not stood up to the brand 's eponymous reputation. I ordered eggs Benedict, while my friend had the avocado on toast with a poached egg, which we washed down with Proseccos. We finished with profiteroles and cappuccinos. Sourdough bread and butter was brought to the table, neither was remarkable, in fact the bread was cold (a small basket of viennoiseries or a warmed assortment would have been preferable). The eggs Benedict, served in the clumsiest of fashions with a green salad and breakfast potatoes, were awful: one slice of rubbery Canadian bacon or ham (undistinguishable) on each English muffin, which was hard as a rock. The eggs had a distinctive odor and taste of vinegar; the hollandaise was thick and flavorless. The food was served tepid. The avocado toast was not served beautifully or flavored unusually in any way. Salt and pepper shakers has to be opened in order to decant the contents because the holes were too small for its contents. The saving grace of the meal were the profiteroles stuffed with Chantilly cream and vanilla ice cream, drowning in dark chocolate, which were clean tasting and unexpectedly morish. Cappuccinos unceremoniously served in small cups and tepid. Over the years, I have eaten at JG restaurants in London and NYC, thoroughly enjoying every mouthful. I am sad to write that this experience was rather poor, and I hope the team addresses the quality issues that should be second nature to a brand of this caliber.
The quality of the food was mediocre at best, the pizza so super thin and not worth the $30! I also got the french fries and they were delicious! But definitely not worth the $20! The food took 45 minutes for 1 pizza, 2 fries, and 1 club Sandwich, the prices can be so much lower, I’m just disappointed for the amount we payed and the food we got.
I visited it again this September and as always great restaurant with yummy
