Restaurant El Meson - Montréal

This was our first visit to this Mexican restaurant that we have been driving by for a number of years. It was a rainy day and stopped here for lunch. In the cosy interior dining area, only two tables were occupied and so we were...treated to personalized speedy service. We ordered 1/2 pitcher of the house-choice margarita and then two selections from the daily menu: stuffed avocado and pescadillas which included a tasty tortilla soup and coffee. The portions were generous and delicious. The service was great and the prices are reasonable.

My visit to El Meson was extremely frustrating. I called ahead two hours before arriving to see if we could reserve a table for 6:30, and the owner assured me that it would be no problem. However, when we arrived, the restaurant was overcrowded, violating Covid precautions of 50% occupancy. Despite telling them we had a reservation, the person I spoke with denied ever receiving a call from me or making a reservation. He even claimed he was not there at the time of my call. I showed him the call on my phone, but he dismissed it and insisted anyone could call at any time. If he had simply said they couldn't accommodate us at 6:30, I would have understood. However, the dishonesty and lack of accountability have lost them our business.

1. Service was excellent. Granted, we were there at 4 p.m., so before the dinner time rush. They do have signs up asking for patience due to staff shortage. 2. The margaritas were excellent! We had they house version… sweet, with a salty rim. 3....The ceviche and nachos and cheese appetizers were plentiful and flavourful. 4. The stuffed pepper meal with beef and the chicken breast meal were also plentiful and delicious. Wow! 5. Street parking… mostly with meters, so plan accordingly. 6. All COVID measures applied, including vaccine passport. 7. Restaurant is quaint and cozy, did get loud once a couple of 6-8 people families arrived. 8. They were getting a lot of takeout orders… so very popular place! 9. Hispanic families were in attendance… clearly for the authentic food! Soooooooo good! Will definitely return!

Went for lunch with a friend, restaurant which is quite small was jammed with people and very loud. Our table was by the bathroom and kitchen so lots of traffic. Servers were very nice, margaritas were good, food was barely warm which is a big...deal to me...I like my food to be hot. Meh!
