Punjab Palace - Montréal

Food was great, prices were reasonable. Staff seemed a bit in the clouds (i.e not really attentive to customers), but otherwise things were fine.

Lunch special : excellent and cheap veg thalies, chana samosa and onion bhajis. BYOB. Amaze. Recommended.

Had dinner here just before it closed after a long day shooting nearby. Food was fantastic. But could barely eat the goat vindaloo. It was soooo hot and I love spicy food. Needed the raita to bring it down a notch. But otherwise great spot. Recommend.

My family and I decided to have lunch here after discovering that our usual spot down the block was closed for the day. We ordered beef biryani and I asked for really mild for my youngest daughter who doesn't tolerate a lot of spiciness, however the dish was spicy even for my high spice standards. The biryani was dry and didn't have much meat in it. I ordered the masala dosa and was quite disappointed with my choice. The dosa was thick and I was practically eating dough. My wife and older daughter ordered the tandoori chicken thali and the chicken tikka thali. Those two dishes were good and they both liked it. The naan that came with our meals were good too. As far as service was concerned, it took a lot to get the attention of the staff who were more focused on bringing out dishes to the tables or hanging out by the cash register. After several attempts to flag them down,I had to go to the cash register to talk to them. Also, if you are in need to use the washroom, I would avoid at any cost as they are dirty. Hold it until you can use one at a gas station or a coffee shop. Bottom line, I wasn't impressed and therefore won't be returning.

Well. I have to preface this by saying the food good! The staff is also very polite but when it comes to ambiance and cleansiness, the restaurant is a bit lacking. I went there with a group of 15 for Birthday and found the carpets to be very dirty and badly stained at least where we sat (next to the window) with food lingering all over. there were no tablecloths or even paper mats on the table. Frankly I expected a little better considering I had made the reservation in advance and it was Canada Day!. However it was bring your own wine which is a plus and as I mentioned the food is very good and the also allowed me to bring my own birthday cake. I would have give it a 5 rating had it not been for the carpet.
