Contribuiți la feedbackPempek is the most famous of Palembang's dishes. His origin is undoubtedly Palembang. However, the history behind the establishment of this hearty dish is unclear. According to local tradition there were around 16. Century an ancient Chinese immigrants who lived near the river Musi. He noticed a wealth of fish caught by local fishermen. In the Sumatran tropical climate, before the invention of refrigeration technology, most of these unsolded remains were mined and wasted. However, the natives had limited knowledge and techniques for processing fish. During this time, most of the indigenous people simply grilled, fried or cooked their fish instead of other ingredients to make new dishes. The old Chinese man mixed up in some tapioca and other spices that he then sold around the village on his car. The people called this old man 'Pek-Apek, where Apek is a Chinese slang word to call an old man. The food is today known as empek-empek or pempek. Another theory suggests that Pempek was a Palembang adaptation of South China's Ngo Hiang or Kekkian fish section) as surimi 魚, yújiāng) based food. But instead of being served in soup or simply roasted, Pempek is remarkable for its spicy palm sugar ginegar-based sauce.
