Contribuiți la feedbackAfter looking at the website we decided to visit. I agree with another reviewer, that you are not given the full correct picture. All the food we had were good, but very random waiting times for different dishes, so members of groups often eat at different times. Not a large selection to choose from and I hated the 8 item person rule, not because I left hungry, but felt very conscious and cautious in case we ordered too much. It is also very noticeable the different in portion size of starters to mains, so if I ordered 4 main courses it's still the same price as 4 starters despite the quantity. I would return but not sure I fully recommend on the grounds of tablet ordering and price.
If you want this kind of food this is the No1 place in the area; We visit it every month and the service, food and athmosphere is always the best you can get.
By way of adding some context to this review I should say that I have been coming to this restaurant since it opened many years ago. The price pre-covid was around the €13 mark and the set up was a help yourself cooked buffet with two additional cooking stations where the staff would cook any raw items you had chosen from the separate uncooked buffet. There was a great choice of items including Asian and seafood, and it was a genuine ‘eat as much as you want’ style restaurant. Due to covid the help yourself buffet had to go, that is a given, but this is where this establishment is letting itself down. The help yourself buffet has not returned, instead they employ an ordering system whilst sat at your table utilising a provided electronic tablet. You use the electronic tablet yourself to order which items you want and then a staff member delivers your food to the table. Our food did arrive quickly but somewhat randomly and in no seemingly logical order. However, the choice of food is now quite limited and not as advertised on the menu section of the restaurant web page which has not been updated for a very long time. The dishes are now mainly Asian with the seafood selection having almost virtual disappeared, and the dishes served are all very similar. I will say that the quality of the food on the whole was good if not a little small on the portion size. BUT, this is what they don’t tell you, although the price has shot up to €21.95 per person they now limit the amount you can order to 8 dishes per person total. You can no longer ‘eat as much as you like’ and they DO NOT advertise this change nor inform you of this change when you sit down to eat. You merrily order away on your provided electronic tablet oblivious to the fact that you are restricted to the amount you can now have. 8 dishes is quite a lot of food despite the small portions BUT those with big appetites beware of this change. To further compound the growing problems with this restaurant despite advertising a fixed price of €21.95 when you come to pay your bill you will find that the €21.95 price does NOT include the mandatory 10% IVA tax which is then added onto your bill. The factors I have mentioned in this review lead me personally to believe that the numerous other similar restaurants in the area offer more choice and better value for money with their set meals or even their normal menu. Having stopped the numerous non-Asian dishes which set this restaurant apart from the rest I think The Wok has fallen behind the other Asian food restaurants in terms of quality and choice. I think if The Wok were to be more informative with its new set up and the restrictions they bring, people could make an informed decision regards eating here. Just by way of providing the full picture we went on a Friday evening and the place was almost entirely empty of customers for two hours which leads me personally to believe that customers are eating elsewhere and are not returning like they use to. In order to be impartial in this review I will end it by saying should you decide to eat at The Wok you will not have a bad meal but I think there is better Asian restaurants available a matter of minutes away.
We had some friends over for a night in our house in La Cala. We ordered a Wok and ordered a main each and a starter to share (3 people). The size of the portions were so much smaller than expected. We ordered duck pancakes and the pancakes were horrendous. The pancakes were split right down the middle, so no point in ordering them as they didn’t hold the duck. Would have ordered more food if known this as everyone was hungry afterwards. The portions were small for a very expensive takeout meal which was €70 for 3 mains and 1 starter. Asked for prawn crackers as well and none were included. Overall the meals didn’t taste very nice and was very bland. Would not recommend.
I’ve used the wok for quite sometime and never had any problems.. it was a bit of a shock when they introduced the tablet to order system but I was told this was a step to keep peoples distance during covid 19 which I totally understood… myself and partner visited a couple of weeks back to find out that the tablet order system is still the only way to order and the buffet is a thing of the past …and to top it off you now get less food and the price has shot up to €22 ..a real shame because I recommend so many people to use the wok when it was a buffet restaurant..my score is based on the value for money and not being able to sit and eat your meal at the same time as your family/friends because your always waiting for other bits of food to come out!!!
