El Poblano Mexican - Merrillville

First time visiting this spot and definitely will not be the last! The food was very good…the burrito was very good and more than enough. I only finished half of it. The chicken taco with cilantro and onions was very good as well. The 3 of us ended up with carry out so the portions are healthy. My new Mexican food ? spot in NW Indiana.

I dont do 5 stars. That rating is reserved for like a Michelin stared restaurant. But... This place just made the mark, not in any one category, though good food. One of the the best beef tacos. Friendly attentive service, great decor, we were also treated to a live Mariachi band. Combined making for a great unexpected experience.Food: 5/5

Horrible customer service and experience. We ordered the crab legs we asked what the market price was she said a small was $15 and a large was $30. The price was attractive but I can’t eat a large so I ordered the small. When the food came we started to enjoy when she came to check on us I asked her is this a small. She said no this is a large I said I wanted a small she corrected me and then I corrected her. I asked her how much is this she said $80 I said I would have not ordered $80 dollars worth of a large crab I can’t eat that by my self. She apologized and I thought she offered to comp other meal. After we waited an extended-amount of time her her to come back with our bill we grabbed another server. We were very upset when the bill came as both our meals were still on the ticket. We waited and then asked for our server to come to the table. She then explained that she comped our $3.00 dollar sodas as an inconvenience to which I felt was not enough. She said you can speak to the Manager. He said there was nothing he could do because our food was already boxed up and he could not take it back now. The food wasn’t the issue your server went from $15, to $30, to now $80 with out telling me the price before I even ordered the food. I refused to pay my bill to witch he said he would call the police. Horrible customer service, not going to bring up race or the broken English into the conversation it was a horrible miscommunication that could have been handled with better professionalism besides just “ Oh Well” .The Crab was cold, overcooked and too salty. There are so many ways to handle miscommunication, 10%off my bill, a coupon to come back, a free drink coupon etc, etc, ect but to look at your customer shrug your shoulders and wash your hand is just poor business and then to threaten to call the police and I wasn’t even making a scene or loud YET. Save your money they treat customers like trash.

We have been waiting for 2 hours, when they said 20 minutes. This is absolutely unacceptable service. Update: We finally got seated over 2 hours laters, and had our orders taken swiftly. THE FOOD WAS HEAVENLY, and I highly recommend the lettuce.
