Contribuiți la feedbackI recently had lunch with a friend at Cook's Hill in Bar Beach. The restaurant is located at the bowling club and has a new outdoor dining area with views of the beach, making it arguably the best location in Newcastle with the cheapest drinks! The food was spectacular and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of food served. We enjoyed the Arancini balls with goat cheese and Napoli sauce, as well as the spatchcock which was excellent and delicious. The Arancini balls were just as good, if not better, than what I've had in Northern Italy. We were so impressed with the quality of the food that we spoke with the chef, Wade, who is also the owner. Wade is a very friendly guy who shared his experiences working in top restaurants in Sydney and London, as well as on super yachts in the Mediterranean. After lunch, we relaxed outside with a few beers and a view of the beach. The restaurant also offers a variety of grilled meats, snack plates, and a delicious looking quinoa salad that we saw another family enjoying. We were so impressed that we made reservations for dinner the following week, which was just as amazing with a scallop risotto and succulent marlin fillets with a pesto salad and pickled beetroot. This is truly 5-star quality dining at affordable prices. I would give Cook's Hill a 10 out of 10 rating. Thank you, Wade, we will be recommending your restaurant to all our friends!
I had a quick dinner during the week with my children. The service was extremely fast. The children's dishes were good, but even though I asked, no salads or vegetables were offered. My meal was drenched in olive oil, and the fried fish had an excessive amount of oil on it. I felt sick after eating. The Greek salad I ordered also had an excessive amount of olive oil. My advice is to order dishes without sauce or ask for dressing on the side.

Had a quick dinner mid week with the kids. Extremely quick service. Kids meals were good - but no salad or veges were offered even when I asked. My meal was "drenched" in olive oil, and the panfried fish had so much oil over it - I felt sick. Then my greek salad was also swimming in olive oil. My advice is food was good, but ask them to hold or have all the dressings on the side.
This restaurant has a nostalgic vibe with shelves filled with a wide variety of unique, quirky, and vintage literature.
