Script Bar and Bistro - Melbourne

The restaurant is located in the Southbank Theatre, not great ambience, but ideal for theatre goers. Cuisine concept is Italian - we had calamari and pasta dishes. All good without being exceptional. The service was prompt, and we ready in ideal time for the play. We went on a Friday, and it as booked out, so I would recommend booking, at least for a weekend.

I've been here a few times for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. Has a better atmosphere at night than day. Food is good and popular with people who work at the Recital Centre or ABC. Breakfast is simple fare and reasonably priced. Lunch tasty and nice menu choices. Dinner menu is very good. Particularly nice with the twinkle lights in at night. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking is good with limits of up to 2 hours. One note: music is too loud.

A restaurant fundamentally there for patrons at the Southbank Theatre and caters to that quite efficiently.We had a main calamari and the rosemary chicken. Neither meal was a taste sensation, and my calamari was a decent serve but rather bland tasting. My wife's chicken seemed to have some ingredients that weren't on the description that she doesn't deal with well. (Guess we should have asked).Meal took 25 minutes to appear, but certainly in time for us to make the start of the play.The staff were very pleasant and attentive.Personally, we wouldn't be in a rush to go back when there are a range of restaurants at Southgate ....

We arrived 7.15 pm to an empty restaurant, except for staff eating their dinner. We still had to wait to be seated. Only one other couple arrived during our stay. The food was over-priced, with not a great deal of choice. It seems most customers are theatre-goers. The staff swept the floor while we were dining - and then mopped it, which was rather off-putting. It may work as a place to eat if one is going to the theatre, otherwise not recommended.

We duly arrived (a little early) and advised the waitress when she took our order that we had one hour before we needed to leave to pick up our tickets for the show. She acknowledged this. Unfortunately, our order was overlooked, and we sat watching whilst other diners arrived after us, and were served their meals. We walked up to the front to ask what was happening, and were told our meal was being 'plated' at this moment, which was untrue as we waited a further ten minutes for our meal. As a result, we had to eat in a hurry - a quick meal would be an understatement. Not a single apology was received from any member of staff. Given the very clear instructions on the booking confirmation about what the diner should do to get to the show on time, this obviously doesn't apply to the staff.
