My adult sons, my husband and I had lunch here on Mothers' Day. It's a quirky little gastro pub in the back streets of Nth Fitzroy. SmallIsh, but the joint was jumpin'. We loved the idea of all the orders ending up on a large platter in the middle to share. Tasty meat from their own smoker (an interesting thing to check out through the windows - in a courtyard outside), good variety of mains and sides and reasonable prices. Drinks also good variety, but a little pricey. Staff were efficient and friendly. The open fire was a great touch and topped off the cosy atmosphere. We had a lovely time and left with satisfied tummies. We'll definitely be back !!!
The Bluebonnet Barbecue at the North Fitzroy Star Hotel is truly a place to go if you are a meat lover. Specialising in slow cooked meats like Smoked Brisket, Pulled pork, Porter Braised Beef cheek and Slow Cooked Pork Belly that are so tasty and tender it is hard to chose which one is the best. This selection of meats is complemented with a great selection of sides like the Melon and Potato Salad, Caramelised onion biscuits, Slaw and Jalapeno Mash that go really well with meats on offer. There is also a great selection of craft and local beers and cider available that have been chosen to relay complement the menu. Overall I would highly recommend giving the Bluebonnet Barbecue a visit for an awesome experience for all the meat lovers out there.
Bluebonnet BBQ is now ensconced in the old Nth Fitzroy Star Hotel and what a menu! The chef specialises in slow cooked meats with gorgeous sides like smoked beetroot, barley, pecan, feta and dill salad and chopped brisket chilli cheese fries with jalapeno and sour cream. The star for me was the smoked banana and salted caramel hot ball donuts served with ice cream. Great value at $11 for 6 of these heavenly salted balls! OMG it just doesn't get any better!! Especially on a cold winter's night in front of a fireplace with a vodka in hand. Top spot.
