This was our second time at the Briarhurst. The previous was over twenty years ago. We found it difficult to find the property at night. Very dark area with just window lights. We had to guess where the front door was. The place was half occupied at 7pm on a Saturday. Service was a disaster for a venue with this heritage. The poor one only server, who did his best under the circumstances, apparently was “drafted” for the night knew very little of the food, it’s ingredients, or what the menu contained. The food presented was excellent. Top ingredients, very enjoyable, and presented smartly and warm. The facility while representing the historic manor of a rich Englishman has become more a musty museum of worn floor, tarnished silver, old normal furnishings. I don’t remember any accompanying mood music. The overall impression was staging a meal out of the blue in an old Victorian home museum after closing hours. I found it depressing and just wanted the experience over with. It’s a real shame that the venue has been allowed to get to this state. With inspiration, investment and first class management this could a real rival for the local Broadmoor.
Chef was very noticeable for allergies. Food was wonderful and Ambience was great.
I would say that the waiter was fantastic, I had no good mood in and in all honesty felt demolished, I would have cooked a steak at home for 1/10 of the price, and the atmosphere was extremely boring and creepy at times. The host seemed like it was a funeral house and the quiet vibes mixed with the under-average food was not pleasant and finally I felt saddened for the price. I'd rather have gone to McDonald and called it a night.
First time we have been there in the past few years. Hostess was disorganized and flustered with three couples waiting to be seated. Waitress was on second day and did a great job, food was not great. The steak my wife had was burnt, the duck I had was bland and had no flavor. The lobster bisque was still amazing as we remembered, but we both missed the beef Wellington. Building needs a solid deep cleaning, rugs were nasty, floors dirty, fireplace needs to be cleaned. This used to be a great romantic setting.
