Dropped in for a couple of beers before evening meal and was delighted to find this gem of an old England pub. Joules beers which were new to me as we live in east Anglia were top notch and kept well by the landlord. Open fire from 5pm would highly recommend a visit.
The oldest pub in the City but quickly becoming the one that everyone wants to visit. With the new owners certainly putting the effort in, Be if from Free Sausage Rolls for customers on a Friday to the extensive work being carried out in the beer garden (I believe this is set to be completed in the coming weeks) and the plans looks amazing! The pub has an extensive range of Cask Ales, Draft Larger and Cider along with a range of bottles European beers. It's also got a extensive range of spirits. If you're not sure just ask the staff they seem well briefed in helping, If not ask some of the regulars for some advice. The also have some great savoury snacks such as pies, sausage rolls etc and plenty of interesting snacks in the crisp department! On top of that they arrange street food most weeks Some of those have been amazing! The pub also has regular entertainment from Acoustic Acts, Singers etc along with regular themed nights such as Quiz Nights, Games Night but always complimented with some good background music too. Also check out the Darts Board It is there but not always obvious. This will possible be the pub to visit when the sunshine and summer finally returns! The pub is also very much dog friendly with a tub of treats always available on the bar which is a really nice touch. The pub due to it's licence requirements is not Child Friendly but personally I think that's very much to it's advantage. To the owners Keep up the good work and we look forward to many more nights out!
I feel really bad, this is my local pub, I should be supporting it, but again I have been completely let down by the staff running the Duke. My friends and I decided once again to try the Duke for a pint as it is local to all of us. There is a bit of previous as you can tell from my review in 2017 should you wish to scroll down. We even joked on the way that we would be complaining about it, little did we know that by the end of the evening, we would be standing outside the pub (with other customers) saying we had a pretty terrible experience. Please Joules, put the staff on a course that teaches them them that returning customers are vital to a pub’s success. The icy reception that one gets (eventually) at the bar isn’t vey welcoming. Then there comes the matter of closing. This pub closes at 11pm dead. We were given the ‘option’ of tipping the remains of our drinks into plastic glasses should we want to keep our drinks post 11pm to consume outside. Come on Joules, this is no way to run a pub in such a great location. No wonder so many people walk past it and go to other pubs in Lichfield.
Met up with friends for a few drinks here. Staff were pleasant. Pub nice and had a good atmosphere. Noticed that they also served food which looked good, so might have to try that another time.
