A high scale restaurant. Located in a very nice area of Oahu and the Aulani Disney resort and four seasons hotel. This location is right on the golf course....
Overall, it was a good experience at Roy's. We have been dining at this location for over 10 years, so we have seen the service ebb and flow, especially after the addition of the Disney hotel. We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation. So, we gladly waited at the bar. Strangely, the bartender just looked at us blankly; no welcome or any other type of greeting. Nonetheless, we ordered our usual pineapple martini. Our server, Karissa was an absolutely perfect server; she was attentive, and she worked especially hard to accommodate our dietary restrictions. We don't eat beef or pork, and we are accustomed to the challenges this type of diet presents when dining in Hawaii. Speaking of which, I was shocked that Roy's had soooooooo many items on the menu where pork was an essential part of the meal, but did not have to be. For example, the chef offered to make a different mac cheese; the “regular” entrée had a parmesan cheese sauce that was infused with bacon. The alternative, made with butter cream did not sound nearly as appealing as a parmesan mac cheese dish. Some of the fish dishes cam e with pork salad... or a prosciutto crust. I get it; most people like bacon. And pork does add a certain flavor that one can only get from a pig. Nonetheless, with sooooo many pork-infused items on the menu, the offerings actually lower my appreciation for the menu, as a whole. The butterfish, usually an outstanding item at Roy's was, shall we say, “heavy.” And that's not a compliment. The shoyu reduction sauce had been reduced to an overly sweet glazed and then charred... ultimately weighing down the flavor of the delicate butterfish. My dish of seafood “treasures,” in particular, was decently good. But the salt content was a bit much. And one of the lobster strips was overcooked to the point of being dry. The ambiance is always good at Roy's; the service was stellar. However, the lack of pork-free food doesn't make sense in today's market... especially at Roy's.
Exceptional service from Kori, she is absolutely fantastic! The food is delicious and for the most part very consistent. I love the ambiance on the lake at the golf course and it's kinda pricey but worth it!
