Soulman's -b-que - Hurst

Never got in to try Danny D's, but glad I stopped in to try Soulman's! Very casual, cafeteria style selection process, where all the sides look so good on the steam tables, that it's hard to choose. My first visit, I had the Soul Bowl, which is a little bit of everything in one pile. Sausage, Pulled Pork, Beans, Cheese and Peppers all piled on top of a plate of Fritos sounds like my college days!  I went back a second time to try the Brisket and the Ribs, and settled on Fried Cabbage and Spicy Potatoes for my sides. Both meats were well above average, but my favorite was the Spicy Potatoes! Well seasoned home fries with Onion, Peppers and plenty of Pepper made them as good a side dish as I've had at a BBQ joint!

Wow! You walk in the front door and that smokey, meaty aroma attacks your sense of smell bringing out you inner carnivore. That smokey aroma is making a promise to your taste buds that many places don't live up to, but Soulman's delivered! The pulled pork was moist, but not fatty and had that awesome smoked flavor that makes me love BBQ. <br/ <br/ I had the pulled pork platter that comes with 2 sides. The selection of sides was good and typical of BBQ, baked beans, green beans, slaw potato salad, spicy home fries, mac and cheese and more. I tried the slaw and spicy potatoes and both were good. The slaw is a creamy style, not real finely chopped and was a little sweet and very tasty. The added red cabbage to the mix for a little color and a slightly different flavor. The spicy potatoes were tasty with tomatoes, onion and bell pepper in it and a nice little spicy bite. <br/ <br/ I sampled the mac-n-cheese a person in our party got for a side, it was average, tasting like it was made with cheese sauce and not baked. The other average part of the meal was the bun. It was a nice sized hoagie type of bun that held the generous serving, but it was just a plain white bread bun. Toasting it or having a bun with a little more flavor would have really offset that delicious pork. For those reasons I give 4 and not 5, although the pulled pork itself was a definitive 5!

Delicious pulled pork sandwich and slaw! All of their smoked meats looked soooo good, from the brisket to the ribs and sausage : I wish I could have tried them all! Very nice staff

First time here, absolutely wonderful ! The bbq ribs are so good! Meat just fell off bone. They put a rub spice on them too, really added bonus flavor. Pinto beans and potato salad also added bonus! Can't wait to try something else on menu. Staff was friendly and helpful with menu. Thanks guys. Good job!
