Not what I expected in Houston! Exquisites food! We went as a family of five with children, and the staff was super friendly, attentive and informative. Our waiter Esteban is a jewel! The food is traditional Caribbean, and Punta Cana refines it in a kitchen. I had known the pernir as my protein, the slowly roasted pork shoulder and it was also known as Pulled Pork or Carnitas in other parts. It was one of the best full-bodied dishes I've ever tasted. The secondary dishes were all so sweet and tasty. The restaurant appears named after the city Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and if yes, brings to Houston one of the most beautiful beach cultures in Santo Domingo. Humble Restaurant, exquisite food and perfect service.
We went to church on Sunday for lunch and it was fantastic! We have fried chicken (either Puerto Rico or Dominican spices, I cannot remember) for an appetizer. It was good, but probably next time would choose something else. My wife got the oxtails with beans and rice for her main dish and she really enjoyed it. The beans were also great, unique taste. I had the pernil, the shredded pig shoulder. Comes with a small cup of sauce on the side. Not sure what's in it, but it's a good addition to the pig. It also comes with a small shredded purple cabbage salad and dressing on the side. Very good. I had the mofongo instead of beans and rice. From Wikipedia: Mofongo is a Puerto Rican court with Plantains as the main ingredient. Plantains are pickled green, cut into pieces and typically roasted, but can be cooked or roasted, then mashed with salt, garlic, broth and olive oil in a wooden pilón. All three employees we treated were also great. We will definitely come back!
The Cuban sandwich was the best choice with Yucca Fries, Maduro Plantains, side salad and some delicious bomb red beans and rice. The cheese empanadas were also a hit when I sneak 6 for the road..lol Cosy little place that supports the food flicker of Latin America. PUERTO RICAN DOMINICAN CUBAN...
This was my first time trying Dominican food and I was very impressed on how flavorful the food was at Punta Cana. The place was busy throughout our lunch which I think it speaks good of a restaurant. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The Ceviche was so refreshing and the chicharrón was crunchy and tasty. Definitely will be stopping by again when in the neighborhood. Also, they have plenty of parking which is something I?m always looking for.
