This place has really gone down hill since Gus sold it. The food is mediocre, at best. The wait staff leaves something to be desired, unless you're lucky enough to go there on a day when Shirley the waitress works. Seems like they have a different cook every day. Some good, others not so good. Plus, they close now at 9:00 pm. Just too many other places in the area to eat at that are consistent.
Your basic local diner off a main road. Good option in the area where you won't wait long or pay insane prices. Food is what you would expect from a diner. Diner was clean, looks newly renovated, spacious.
Not what it used to be. Dirty walls and booth, wires hanging out of the ceiling, three different people were trying to take our order. The pancakes were chewy (over-mixed? , tomato juice tasted funny, and the TV just plays ads, one of which it was for a gastroenterologist! Ugh, I hate leaving negative reviews especially when the owners were very nice.
We just had the best post movie meal at the Red Lion Diner. We walked in 20 minutes before closing unaware that it wasn't a 24 hr diner. We were going to leave but the staff was really nice and invited us to stay. Our waitress was Shirley and from glancing at other reviews she's who you want taking care of you here. There were lots of specials but we wanted breakfast food. I didn't see what I wanted on the menu but Shirley hooked me up with a scrapple and cheese omelette that was cooked well done as I like it. The bagel was a traditional Jewish bagel full of everything season on both sides. My date got a little bit of everything. He only wanted sausage links and was happy to hear they had both links and pattys. His pancake stack was huge. Toast came buttered which he appreciated. The dessert case was tempting so we grabbed a slice of cheese cake and carrot cake to go. They are doing a lot of renovations so the place may look new of you haven't been there in a while but still boasts that dining car diner look on the outside. They also had a nice size private area for parties. I've never had a whole dinner to myself. We thought we'd be rushed because everyone wanted to go home but instead the staff was friendly and we enjoyed talking with them. As of December 1st the diner will only open until 9 pm. I definitely plan to return and ask for Shirley. I feel like she will remember us when we do. This spot is perfect for a pre-movie dinner or post movie meal if you catch an early show. Thanks to the staff for letting us eat and for making us feel so special tonight.
