Farm to table, grass fed beef and gluten-free options. Here's the whole package! The atmosphere and quality of food make the prices good. Actually, I feel that food may be too expensive. They pay 6 mice for a processed meat hamburger and frozen frits at average fast food place. For a few dollars more you can get a real quality hamburger with hand-cut pommes. I can't imagine what you'd pay in town. I can't say enough about the atmosphere. There are old pictures of Hillsboro Court House Square with shots of the Cotton Exchange in his Glory days. The tables are beautifully decorated and covered with butcher paper. Did I mention the Mason Jar glasses? Not knowing when they closed, I came 15 minutes after they were closed. They still had customers so they pushed me to stay and eat, so I did. Most places when I come 15 minutes before they close, I get the stinking eye and begrudging service. I will definitely be back and bring friends. I can even bring some of my city friends and show them how it is done. 04052019 update The chicken fried steak is something made from legend. The sausage sword just blow my head! The baked potato was cooked to perfection and ginorms. If you get quality, unprocessed food you can not eat so much of it and it stays with you all day.
The cotton exchange café is the best restaurant we tried in Hillsboro. We enjoyed a variety of their menus. We loved Jalapeño Burger and Shannon's chicken salad. Breakfast is served all day and its pancakes are enormous! Everything is served farm to table FRESH. The staff really cares about the quality of the dishes served! The interior is very sweet and clean. If you are in the area safe to stop by!!! The owners Jason and Shannon Smith are here every day. They lead a small farm in China Spring, Texas where they raise their products in a human, free area, grass fed environment. The proof is in the taste of their flesh and eggs!
Great food, friendly staff and up to earth owners! A place worth an hour drive to try. Had fried cucumbers, bacon cheeseburger, Greek salad and buttermilk cake....oh so good!!! We're coming back!
Serious about serving their own organically grown, ranch grown beef, chicken, egg products in serious Downhome Central Texas fashion with slightly crispy crust hand made fried cakes and homemade ice cream. If I lie, tell Grandma to get the switch!
Stopped for a quick rest from the road and a small bite to eat. The staff was ridiculously friendly! The owner came out and talked with us for a while about the history of the building and gave us information about the town! Will be back.
