Cafe Cuba Cakes - Hawthorne

Especially kind service and great food! Had a work lunch here for a party of 6 and took care of us very easy. Feels like being in your Aunt's kitchen.

Having been to Cuba, I can definitely see how this is an important place where people go to connect to the culture and vibrancy of the island nation. The coffee, the sandwiches, a few grocery items really took me back to my visit and the Cuban coffee wasjust like I?d had both in Cuba and at cafes in Miami. The free WiFi is nice if you have to work for a few minutes while there!Lots of seating makes it easy to find an open table and if you pay by cash, you can avoid the small fee added to card payments.

I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant due to poor service and rude staff. I stopped in today to buy some pastries during a relatively quiet time. There were only two employees working and two customers already seated enjoying their coffee. I ordered the guava tarts without cream cheese, not realizing there were both large and small options. When the employee reached for the larger tarts, I clarified that I wanted the small round ones instead. She responded by shaking her head and giving me an even more sour look. I overheard her mumble, seemingly unaware that I understood Spanish, "These customers are making me work harder." If I hadn’t intended to bring these pastries home for my daughter's birthday, I would have left right then. I will be looking for another Cuban bakery and won’t be returning here.

As a Cuban, I was excited to try the closest Cuban restaurant to me. The food was delicious, but I would recommend being cautious when it comes to your bill. I was overcharged by $10. The receipts do not clearly list what you ordered, as they are inputted manually with generic descriptions. After I got home and compared the charges to the prices listed online, I realized I had been overcharged. It's unfortunate.

I visited this restaurant for the first time and ordered a Cuban sandwich and a pastry. Both were outstanding!
