Would like to start this off by saying that JoM is by far the best restaurant in Hackettstown. I have been a patron of this place more times than I can count since its inception and a very loyal customer.Much has changed since their inception which can be taken either way much by one’s personal opinion. The dine-in experience is still good and the best in the area outside of the Circle in Fredon which has craft cocktails.Personally, the carryout menu and the quality of it is a shell of its former self. $19 for a (shrinking in size) burger with soggy, under-done potato wedges is not what I expect when ordering here. No more fries? Why? The fried chicken is a coin flip, either soggy or tonight it was crispy but vastly under-seasoned. It used to come with pickled veg as an accoutrement, but was replaced with…nothing? Hot honey for an extra $5? The pork belly mole tacos were a nice new addition, but lacked components and toppings outside of some black beans. It’s due to this inconsistency, price hikes and lack of value that my wife and I won’t be ordering out from here for quite some time. It was our favorite spot for years, but we can’t justify the meal anymore. We hope that Chef Bill and Kevin will consider returning some old favorites such as the hanger steak sandwich, the older fries, chicken sandwich, and making brunch a permanent staple like it used to be. A return to your roots might do some good.
Kevin the host was super nice when I had questions about reservations and the food and experience were excellent! Bonus: nice night and easy walking to other local spots and no meter after 6pm!
Best dining experience since we moved from Philadelphia to Sussex County 4 years ago, and we've had a number of fantastic ones in this region but James on Main was the best all around by far. Their cuisine choices and their execution were top notch quality and consistency. The team is small and tight, it's like watching a ballet. Shawn (sp? has mastered the wood fired oven like my German mother in law, John I think was the sauté station, Kelly operated a cold station and expedited, she appeared to be the glue holding the timing together, and Kat (or Cat? was our delightful and professional (and very knowledgeable server. The menu changes with various numbers of Pre Fixe courses we went with 3 and added a share, a dessert, and a bottle of wine. The pictures will have to tell the story because it would be too much to write about... suffice to say, you won't find better around here.
This is one of my favorite local restaurants! It is a hidden gem. The menu has excellent variety and everything I ordered was cooked perfectly. In the small setting you can see the chefs cooking and feeding the wood fire grill which I found interesting. If I had one request- I wish that cocktails were offered as well! They have a wine list but no other alcohol options currently. I was still pleased and plan to return. Kid-friendliness: Adults only when I went there.
